Sachika Wears: Where Simplicity meets Elegance
Since her childhood, Deepika had an ardent interest in fashion but her family being a typical middle class one didn’t have much idea about the fashion industry and how things work in the industry front.. After completing her class 12, she told her father that she wants to pursue her dream of Fashion Designing.
Her father being oblivious about Fashion designing thought she would have to walk on a ramp and thus didn’t allow her. She too wasn’t able to convince her parents and she left her dream midway. Like every other child she too had to choose between Engineering and being a doctor, she chose the former instead.
After finishing her engineering, she got a job in an IT sector job profile but she had her heart towards Fashion designing. She wanted to have a brand of her own and this inherent interest was always there but she didn’t knew how to proceed with things.
Starting off initially was a bit difficult as she didn’t have the initial funding. Eventually, she got married. After marriage, within a year she gave birth to her child. After 21 days of her delivery, she went to shop with her husband to get a stitching machine. She knew stitching when she was 13 years old. During engineering too, she honed her skills in stitching and made designs of her own.
During the initial days, she would stitch something and used to make only one outfit to see how it goes and would take the feedback of her customers. She made around 50 such pieces thought of participating in an exhibition in the year 2018. She was shocked seeing the response she got at that time.
Her designs were unique, very immaculately made and the pricing too was kept pretty affordable.
She didn’t have much knowledge about the fashion industry back then and how marketing end used to work. She used to cut and give it to the tailor due to lack of knowledge and time.
Gradually she learned a lot of things like categorising products and the nitty gritties of how the business works in the fashion industry. She inculcated all of them and also enhanced her leadership and management skills thereby starting her entrepreneurial journey with her brand “Sachika Weaves”.
She is from Orissa and Orissa is famous for sambalpuri fabric. She thought of giving traditional sambalpuri fabric a twist and making western outfits out of it. She sells shorts, blazers, pants, jackets, etc.
She gets her inspiration by researching about products online. If she sees any particular designs, she implements it on cotton fabric and makes her own design.
She buys the fabric on her own and washes it before making an outfit out of it to check the texture and authenticity of the fabric. ‘Sachika weaves’ is known for handmade fabric, sambalpuri ikat and block prints.
The founder Deepika named the brand on merging the name of her and her husband ( Sabsyasachi). She feels that his immense support has helped her to acheive her own brand. He was the one who took her to buy her dream stitching machine after her delivery.
Whenever she makes any outfit, she tries out the designs on herself first before selling it to her customers. In this way she guarantees the products she sells. If you are someone who is into customisation, that too can be done at ‘Sachika weaves’, exactly the way you want it.
